Leonard Mwanza is a visionary and thought leader who is passionate about developing and growing the banking sector in Zambia and across the region. A banker and Chartered Accountant who since 2014 has been serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bankers Association of Zambia.
Leonard has over 25 years’ experience in the Zambian Financial services sector beginning with Standard Chartered Bank, where he worked in front line and back-office operations in branch customer service and credit appraisal as well as Head Office financial control. Leonard has also worked as Senior Internal Auditor and later as Accountant and Finance Manager for the Zambia National Building Society, worked as Director Finance at the National Savings and Credit Bank, before being appointed as Managing Director. After National Savings and Credit Bank, Leonard worked as a Consultant, Researcher and Lecturer at the Zambia Centre for Accountancy studies.
Leonard is a turnaround strategist, who has lead teams which developed and executed strategies to extend financial services in rural areas and the transformation of the Bankers Association of Zambia as an affective policy advocator, thought leader and mouthpiece of the banking sector. Since 2016, Leonard has been the team leader of the Financial Literacy campaigns in the Country, a period in which, there has been a notable increase in financial inclusions levels, development of affordable and accessible financial services products and the surge in the uptake of digital financial services.
Leonard sits on the SADC Bankers Association Board and is the current Chair of the Audit Committee, the Zambia Institute of Banking and Financial services Council and on several working groups and committees.
Leonard is a Chartered Accountant, Fellow member of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)-United Kingdom and the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA), a holder of a Diploma in Accounting and is a Global MBA graduate from the Oxford Brookes Business School – United Kingdom.
