Discover the incredible journey of driving digital financial inclusion across the COMESA region in this documentary.
A journey that began with a vision to empower Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) across the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The goal: to design, develop and deploy an integrated digital financial services infrastructure that is low-cost, interoperable and fraud resistant, ensuring that even the most underserved, including women and youth, have access to financial services.
Our story unfolds across eight pilot countries: Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia.
In Phases I and II, we laid the foundation. We developed a compelling business case and a model policy framework for the COMESA Retail Payment Platform for MSMEs; a draft Model Policy for the Regional Digital Payment Platform and Rulebook was crafted; and a business model for the implementation and operation of the Regional Digital Retail Payment Platform was born.
Now in the midst of implementing Phase III, whose focus is on the development of an implementation and operation mechanism of the COMESA Digital Retail Payments Scheme, we invite you to join us on this remarkable journey. This documentary is more than just a story; it’s a testament to the power of collaboration and political will in the drive for financial inclusion and digital transformation. As we share our progress, challenges, and triumphs, you’ll witness the grand vision we have for the impact we’re on course to make in the lives of those who needed it most.
Get ready to explore the dynamic landscape of financial inclusion in COMESA, where innovation meets social impact, and where digital technology paves the way for a brighter economic future for cross border traders. This is CBC’s Digital Financial Inclusion Program – The Journey.
