Mr. Marday Venkatasamy, CBC Board President

Graduated in Management studies in 1974 from Aix en Provence University, France. Managing Partner of Filao Group of Companies (600 employees). Filao Group of Companies is engaged, for 43 years, in the manufacturing of luxury leather products (alligator watchstraps and leather boxes and displays) for top brands of the watch and jewelry sector. President from 2008 to 2011 of Union of Indian Ocean Chambers of Commerce and Industries (UCCIOI), which gather the Chambers of Commerce of Madagascar, Reunion island, Comoros, Seychelles, Mauritius and Mayotte. Presently the First Vice President of the UCCIOI. President of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1996, 2005, 2010, and since April 2018. Past Executive Board member of Pan African Chambers of Commerce and Industry; COMESA Business Council and ASCCI (Association of SADC Chambers of Commerce and Industry) President of Mauritius Exports Processing Zone Association (MEPZA) from 1992 to 1994. Chairman of Mauritius Exports Development and Investment Authority (MEDIA) from 1996 to 1999. Elevated in Mauritius to the rank of Commander of Star and Key (CSK) in 1996 for outstanding services to industry. Recognized in 2011 by France to the rank of Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Honorary Consul for United Republic of Tanzania in Mauritius since 2010.


Mr. Mucai Kenyiha, CBC First Vice President

Mr. Mucai Kunyiha, is a Kenyan national aged 48 years old, trained as a lawyer in the University of Wales (Cardiff) and obtained an MBA from Ashridge, UK. He has over 20 years’ experience in business at Executive Management level in the manufacturing and distribution of agricultural inputs and real estate industry.

He is currently the Group Chief Executive Officer of Kzanaka Ltd, a family owned investment group that includes Cooper K-Brands Ltd, Analabs Ltd, Mashiara Park and Qaribu Inn and employs over 250 people across East Africa. Mr. Mucai serves on various company boards as a non-executive director and the government’s Vision 2030 Delivery Board. He has been on the board of Kenya Property Developers Association for several years, where he was the Chairman from May 2016 –May 2019.

He has been on the board of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers since 2014 and has served in the Legal & Regulatory Committee, HR and Governance Committee, Finance Management and Projects Committee and the PET sub-sector. He is an advocate for raising the profile of sustainability and environmental issues in manufacturing and beyond. Mr. Mucai is married to Nancy, an endocrine and diabetes physician, and they have two sons. Mucai enjoys going to the gym, watching sport (rugby, F1) as well as reading on theology, business and economics.


Mr. James Chimwaza, CBC Second Vice President

Mr. James Chimwaza has decades of experience in Information Technology covering Software Engineering and Infrastructure Supports. He started his career at Malawi Railways where he was pivotal in development of the revenue collection system for the transport sector. He was also at the heart of development of the billing system for ESCOM during his period at Portland Cement Malawi Limited and prior to launching BCS operations. James holds a Master of Science in Business Systems Analysis and Design from the City University (London) in 1985. He is a member of the British Computer Society by examination. Since inception James has spearheaded successful implementation of many multi-million-dollar projects including the implementation and support of Malawi’s National Switch Platform and so many other big projects. Today he plays a pivotal role in the continuous growth and diversification of the company.

Mr. Issa Sekitto, CBC Board Director

Mr. Issa Sekitto, a Board Member of Private Sector Foundation Uganda, he is serving as a Chairman of Trade Commitee and Director of Trade and Commerce. He is a strong advocate of the private sector development in Uganda. He has worked in various positions in the private sector for the past 20 years. He serves as Kampala City Traders Association spokesperson. Moreso, he is a business consultant and an international quality standards promoter through ISO certification.


Mrs. Munkeni Kiekie Eliane, CBC Board Director

Mrs. Munkeni holds a Degree in Accounting, Taxation, Auditing and Administrative Management from Ecole Supérieure de la Chambre de Commerce Belge in Brussels. She further, holds a Special diploma in financial management: financial balance of the company, financial diagnosis, decision to invest and finance, cash management, financial evaluation, at the ICHEC in Brussels, Belgium. She is a certified trainer of trainers with UNDP (Business ADGE) and ITC under (SHE TRAD), in relation to AfCFTA. She has undergone the UNCTAD online training on trade facilitation and gender perspective in trade facilitation reforms

She was the Director of Accounting and Finance, of BRIKIN Company in Kinshasa. In s1992, he established an accounting company called ACF; whose corporate purpose was to audit, accounting and tax assistance, establishment and winding up of public and private companies, training of trainers in supporting the establishment and the development of a company. She is a seasoned Auditor of public and private companies in various fields such as; liquidation of public and private companies.

Mrs. Munkeni is a registered Member of the Economic and Social Council, Board member at the Central Bank of Congo, since July 2021 and member of the audit committee, Chairperson and Board Member of ORANGE DRC, to date, Board member of FINCA DRC (American international microfinance institution) 2019 - July 2021, Board member of COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) and Member of COMFWB Chapter, Board member of FEC and National Vice Chair of FEC, Focal point for FEC and Board member of COMESA Business Council.


Dr. Sherif El Gabaly, CBC Board Director

Born in 1949, Dr. El Gabaly is an Egyptian National who obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering (Fertilizer Processing) in 1976 from the Higher Institute of Chemical Technology. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Sherif is married man with three children.

Dr. El Gabaly is the current Chairman Of Polyserve Group Of Companies. (www.polyservegroup.com ) since 1990. Polyserve is the largest producer of Phosphate fertilizer in Egypt and one of the largest in Africa. He once served as a consulatant at Dow Chemical from 1989-1990 as well as a General Manager at Dow Chemical (North East Africa District), Cairo from 1980-1988. Earlier in his career he was a Petrochemical Engineer at Qatar General Petroleum Corporation from 1977-1980. Dr. El Gabaly started his career as a Research Engineer (Petrochemicals) at Industrial Organization Of Arab League States 1976-1977.

Dr. Tinashe Manzungu, CBC Board Director

Dr. Manzungu is a multilingual business mogul with extensive professional and entrepreneurial experience who has established various businesses in Zimbabwe. He has invested close to a decade in Real Estate, Health Insurance and Financial Services in Zimbabwe. He is a major shareholder and board chair in private limited companies which include Zimbuild and Zimbabwe General Medical Aid Health Fund. He has seats on other boards including that of the Midlands State University and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services.


Eng. Melaku Ezezew, CBC Board Director

Melaku Ezezew Yenieneh (Eng.) is the President of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA) and the Vice President of the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is a strong advocate of the private sector development in Ethiopia. He has worked in various positions in the private sector for the past 17 years. Formerly, he serves as President of Amhara Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations; prior to which he was president of Gondar Chamber of commerce and Sectoral Associations. He did his Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering from Addis Ababa University and he holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Currently, he is working in various economic sectors in the country. Some of them are Bete Melaku Real estate, transportation service and other businesses.


Dr. Amany Asfour, CBC Board - Immediate Past President

Dr. Amany Asfour is graduated from Faculty of Medicine – Cairo University and had her master’s degree & M.D. degree in Pediatrics in her academic career, she is a Lecturer of Pediatrics at the National Research Center of Egypt. She joined the private sector since she was a student at the Faculty of Medicine. Within few years she was also able to establish a company for medical equipment with more than 30 brands of medical equipment. Currently she is the President - Africa Business Council; President - African Alliance for Women Empowerment; President - BPW International; President – EBWA, among other influential positions.

Her interests are not limited to the medical field, as she has realised a passion for Economic Women Empowerment & Young Women Entrepreneurship Promotion. As a result, she established the Egyptian Businesswomen Association in 1995 with the objectives of promoting young generations of Women Entrepreneurs & giving guidance to women business owners of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. The organization also supports the mainstream of feminine gender in the Global Market. From her belief that financial independence gives the Power of Choice & Voice, she directed her activities towards Economic Empowerment of Women, Capacity Building, Development of Human Resources & to stress on equal opportunity for girls, Youth and women for education & training and promotion of Women and Youth in Science and Technology .and building partnerships with their colleagues in Africa, Asia, Europe and all over the world.


Mr. Dickson Poloji, Acting CEO & Business Policy Programs Manager

Dickson Poloji is an Economist with over 23 years working experience in the Private Sector, Public Sector and Development sector. He worked as a Consultant supporting East Africa Team under USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub on trade policy issues and also a Consultant with Intergrated Development Consultants Ltd (IDCL). Prior to joining IDCL, he worked for USAID/East Africa Trade and Investment Hub (the Hub), East African Business Council (EABC) and Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).

In the course of his work, he developed sound competencies in leadership and management, planning and organisation, negotiation and stakeholder engagement.

At CBC he is responsible for business policy and advocacy, policy research, trade and business intelligence, program implementation and administration, stakeholder dialogue, event management, and partnerships.

He holds a Masters of Science degree in Economic Statistic from Odessa National University of Economics in Ukraine.
