James Chona

James Chona is Director of Airtel Money in Zambia. He is also a Director and Board Member of Airtel Mobile Commerce Limited. He has Senior Executive Manager with Sales and Distribution Management experience working for a leading Global brand in Consumer Electronics and a leading Mobile Telecom Operator. Extensive commercial experience with Engineering and Project Management background having worked as a Technical Manager and Sales Manager and eventually into General Management roles.

With 8 years’ experience in Management and over 16 years in IT Sales, James holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, A Diploma in Aeronautical Electronics, Advanced Certificate in Liberalized Telecom Markets and Policies. He is PRINCE 2 Practitioner.

Ms. Jabangwe is currently the youngest chief executive to run a mobile money business in Africa, EcoCash. EcoCash is Zimbabwe’s leading and fastest-growing mobile money service in Africa of telecoms giant, Econet Wireless and was the 2017 Corporate recipient of the Mobile World Congress "Best Mobile Payment Solution", Glomo Awards.

With over 11 years of experience in FinTech, she began her career as a software engineer, eventually moving to Investment banking and retail banking sectors, across the EMEA region. Prior to joining EcoCash, she was a Senior Mobile Financial Services Consultant at a Fortune 500 company, NCR Corporation, where she developed NCR’s digital financial service strategy across 52 countries.

She is a seasoned researcher and enthusiastic digital strategist with deep financial services and technology development experience. Natalie holds a BSc Information Technology and an Executive M.B.A. (Specialisation in Hi-tech Strategy and Corporate Turnaround) from Imperial College London, UK. She is 2017 Oxford University Tutu Fellow. In 2017, Ms. Jabangwe became a member of YPO Africa. In 2018, she was nominated for the World Economic Forum as part of a great team of young innovative entrepreneurs and strategists.

George has 22 years uninterrupted experience in commercial banking. Presently the Managing Director of KCB Bank Rwanda Plc, a role he took over from 1st August, 2017. A Certified Executive Coach with the Academy of Executive Coaching (UK), graduate of the University of Nairobi, School of Mathematics (BSc Mathematical Statistics 1994 and MSc Pure Mathematics 1998) and KCA University, Post Graduate Diploma in Corporate Governance 2007.

Earlier banking career started in 1999 at Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Ltd (SCBK) from beginners’ level rising through the ranks and left in 2005 as Branch Manager to join Barclays Bank of Kenya as Area Manager in Retail Banking Division for two years before taking up new responsibility within Barclays Bank Africa as the Head, Business Analytics and Planning for the East & West Africa from Dec 2007 to Dec 2008.

He joined KCB Bank Group Plc in January 2009 and has held various roles from then. From Jan 2009 to July 2013, Head of Business Analytics and Transformation Project based in Nairobi and reporting to Deputy GCEO. Moved to KCB Bank Rwanda Plc (a subsidiary of KCB Bank Group Plc) in Sept 2013 to take up the role of Head of Retail Banking before becoming the Head of Business Development and Client Services in March 2014, reporting to Managing Director. The latter role combined Retail Banking, Corporate Banking and Custody Services. A position he held until July 2017 in KCB Bank Rwanda Plc before rising to the Managing Director role that he presently holds.

Judith Obholzer is the Managing Executive for Legal and Regulatory Affairs responsible for Vodacom’s operations in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and Lesotho. An economist by training, she worked at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations before joining Vodafone. She started her career with the company holding commercial roles in Germany before moving on to the head office in London, where she provided economic and regulatory advice to all 26 Vodafone markets. She is a seasoned expert in telecoms regulation, new digital business and mobile payments.

Diana Apio-Kasyate

Government Relations Manager East & Central Africa Franchise - Coca-Cola Africa Pty

Diana Apio-Kasyate is the Government Relations Manager East & Central Africa Franchise, at Coca-Cola Africa Pty, a regional role supporting 14 countries in Africa.

Diana is a seasoned public affairs leader and communications practitioner with a combined experience of over 15 years in corporate and regulatory affairs, public relations, development communication, media and journalism, as well as stakeholder management both in the private and public sector. She has led the development and execution of various communication, engagement and regulatory strategies, as well as providing delivery of government affairs programs/initiatives and supporting analyses around public, legislative and government policy trends and opportunities.

Besides the beverage sector, she has in previous roles, also served and led programmes in the railway sector, tobacco sector, mainstream media as well as supporting a not-for profit organization at the forefront of pushing for social change in the areas of governance, equality, citizen empowerment and poverty reduction at Media Focus on Africa Foundation, Uganda, where she also serves as a board member.
Diana holds an MA in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies, and a Bachelors (Hons) Degree in Mass Communication both from Makerere University, Kampala, besides other additional specialized academic and professional trainings and participation in related international programmes. She is passionate about contributing to any opportunities that advance African development.

Gerry Rasugu

Gerry Rasugu

Director, M4D, Sub- Saharan Africa - GSMA

Gerry is the Director, Mobile 4 Development, SSA at the GSM Association. In this role, he has the primary responsibility for identifying opportunities for social, economic and environmental impact to stimulate the development of scalable, life-enhancing mobile services in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

Gerry has served in various capacities at the GSMA, with his most recent role as the Market Engagement Director, Africa & Middle East, for the Mobile Money Programme, supporting deepening of GSMA’s Mobile Money activities through the development of more successful mobile money services within the region.

Prior to joining GSMA, Gerry was the Technical Lead, Agent Network Group at Enclude Solutions (formerly ShoreBank International & Triodos Facet). He has a wealth of experience in the branchless banking arena, notably from the world acclaimed M-PESA where he pioneered the set-up the agent network in Kenya that was responsible for taking financial services closer to the people. Gerry is also experienced in designing and building agent networks supporting financial inclusion having worked on the bKash initiative in Bangladesh, the first of its kind in this populous country; and has gone on to work on initiatives in other regions and countries including Uganda, Fiji Islands, India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Peru, Ethiopia and Brazil.

Gerry has worked globally with various telecom partners and financial institutions. He has strong experience in Sales and Distribution across East Africa and the Pacific region. He has interacted with various development partners and regulatory bodies to help formulate relevant policies for Mobile Financial Services. Gerry has also co-published an agent training document specifically targeting financial services agents.

Executive Secretary - COMESA Clearing House

Mr. Mahmood Mansoor is the Executive Secretary for COMESA Clearing House. The COMESA Clearing House (CCH) was established in accordance with Article 73 of the COMESA Treaty to facilitate the settlement of trade and services payments amongst Member States. It enables Member States to use local currencies in their intra-COMESA trade.

The Clearing House introduced the Regional Payment and Settlement System (REPSS) which was designed to allow Member States to transfer funds within the region. REPSS is built on open standards and is also accessible to Non-Member States. The COMESA Clearing House is based in Zimbabwe.

Experienced with the media in Africa-Middle East at Editor/decision-making level.

He has proven track record of stakeholder management for influence and well versed in African Politics, International Business Strategy, Corporate Communications and Sustainability (CSR) at top levels with leading multi-nationals. These included Tullow Oil where he led a team of 19 professionals and 15 years with British American Tobacco, a FTSE 100 Company-second largest tobacco company in the world where he held area team leadership and general management oversight for Corporate & Regulatory Affairs-leading virtual teams for Sub-Saharan Africa.

He is an excellent negotiator and communicator who is globally exposed. Current and ex Member of various trade and professional associations in Sub-Saharan Africa. Country experience in over 30 states in Eastern Africa, Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia/Somali-land), DR Congo, Sudan, The Indian Ocean Islands (Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Mayotte, Seychelles, La Reunion), Southern Africa (Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Angola). He has consulted for various development agency funded programs such as USAID, CDC Atlanta (Public Health); and World Bank Group, GIZ, African Development Bank, European Investment Bank, DEG, AfD Proparco and FMO on the 250 MW Bujagali Hydro Power Project. He has also consulted for the East African Community to develop its Communications Policy & Strategy.

In respect to qualifications, he holds an Executive MBA from Strathmore /IESE Business School and Bachelor’s degree in mass communication with Economics and Political Science from Makerere University.
