Dr. Amany Asfour
Dear Members of the Business Community,
It is a great privilege to welcome you to the COMESA Business Forum website; the information portal for private sector in COMESA.
As the private sector, we have often communicated about mastering our potential to trade competitively amongst each other. As the policy makers and drivers of large corporations can testify, a country’s wealth is only strengthened through a strong market driven economy. SMEs make up over 90% of our employment base as a region. The role of women and youth as drivers of the economy in the SMEs sector should be underscored. The manufacturing sector is driven by strong Multi National Corporations that need to take a strategic approach to localize their value chains, in order to tap into Africa’s manpower and technical expertise and productivity, and hence selling to regional and international markets

Recognition in the COMESA Treaty gives CBC access and relevance. CBC is the only regional private sector membership organization in Africa that is formally recognized in the Treaty of the Regional Economic Community that it represents. This makes CBC unique and gives it access to COMESA organs and decision-makers.
Independence, knowledge, wide outreach and power to influence. CBC is set up with an independent Board of Directors and a General Assembly that is made up of business leaders from the region. CBC’s coverage and outreach is unique and positions it to bring members together to uplift issues that are regional and use its outreach in its 19 member countries and through corporate members to advocate and build linkages and partnerships across member states and industries.
Ability to build linkages, partnerships and knowledge. CBC represents a large market and helps businesses navigate this market. CBC should continue to build its knowledge, expertise and services such as for instance BizNet to effectively offer unique services to the private sector in the region.- VALUE PROPOSITION
The desired impact of CBC’s work under the Strategy 2018-22 is to promote the competitiveness of businesses and increase intra-regional trade within COMESA and COMESA exports. This impact will not only be created by CBC but by many other stakeholders working on regional integration and trade such as COMESA and Members States. Our overall long - term Impacts or results are;
- STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
- Increased intra- regional trade
- Increased COMESA exports
The Business Linkages Portal is an initiative of CBC and hopes to link buyers and sellers in the COMESA region, there by increasing local sourcing and trade within the COMESA region.
